A sex doll torso is essentially a realistic, advanced sex toy. It’s designed to replicate the human body from the neck down to the upper thighs, including the breasts and butt and it usually features two usable entries: the vagina and the anus.
It sits perfectly between pocket pussies and full-size sex dolls, offering the sweet spot in price, realism, and convenience.
Torso vs. Pocket Pussy vs. Full-Size Doll
If we look back, the first sex dolls that really hit the market were the classic inflatable dolls made from vinyl or latex. They showed up in the 1970s — before that, everything was basically homemade experiments. But the golden age of blow-up dolls didn’t last long. The material was flimsy and limited, and people wanted something that looked and felt more real. That’s when silicone came onto the scene in 1996 — and it changed everything.
The man behind this revolution was Matt McMullen, the founder of RealDoll — still the most famous silicone doll brand in the world. He’s often called the father of the modern sex doll. RealDoll set the blueprint: a full silicone body, an internal skeleton, and human-like proportions. The only problem? The price. Early silicone dolls could cost anywhere from $20,000 to $30,000, which kept them way out of reach for most people.
Then came 2013, and with it, the rise of TPE (thermoplastic elastomer). Suddenly, the price dropped to about one-third of silicone, and the whole industry was turned upside down. For the first time, lifelike sex dolls were affordable — and the market exploded.
The first TPE dolls came from WM Doll, a company that originally made fiberglass mannequins. The story goes that at a trade show, someone jokingly asked if they could “make a mannequin with a hole down there.” The founder took that joke seriously — and ended up creating one of the biggest breakthroughs in the industry.
TPE had its clear ups and downs: it was super soft, flexible, and cheap, but less realistic when it came to skin detail or body makeup.
By 2020, though, the tables turned again. As technology improved and production costs fell, silicone made a huge comeback. The new formulas were softer, more durable, and far more lifelike. While TPE still ruled the budget market, silicone re-established itself as the premium choice — the gold standard for realism, hygiene, and long-term use.
